Privacy Policy for dhrimov.dev

This page explains what data dhrimov.dev processes when you visit, why, and what rights you have over it. I keep data collection to a minimum - there are no accounts, no sign-up forms, and no newsletter on this site.

Who runs this site

dhrimov.dev is a personal blog run by Dmytro Hrimov. For data protection purposes, I am the data controller. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, email me at me@dhrimov.dev.

What this site processes

What gets processed falls into three buckets:

  • Analytics about how pages are used (Google Analytics and Umami - see below).
  • Standard server logs kept by the hosting provider.
  • Anything you send me directly if you email me.

Analytics

I use two analytics tools, and they are treated differently because they collect different things.

Google Analytics runs only if you accept it in the cookie banner. It sets cookies and processes data such as your IP address, browser, device, and the pages you view, and it sends that data to Google. The legal basis is your consent. You can decline it, and you can change your mind at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer - declining stops Google Analytics and clears its cookies.

Umami is a privacy-friendly analytics tool that runs for every visitor. It does not set cookies, does not store your IP address, and does not track you across other websites - it only produces aggregated counts like page views and referrers. Because it stores nothing on your device and holds no personal data about you, it runs under legitimate interest rather than consent. My Umami data is hosted in the EU.

Cookies

This site uses cookies in two cases:

  • A "cookie_consent" cookie that records whether you accepted or declined analytics. It is set once you make a choice, is strictly necessary for remembering that choice, and needs no consent of its own.
  • Google Analytics cookies (_ga and related), set only after you accept analytics.

Umami does not set any cookies. You can also clear or block cookies through your browser settings at any time.

Server logs

Like any website, dhrimov.dev is served by a hosting provider that keeps standard access logs. These can include your IP address, browser type, and the date and time of the request. They are used to run and secure the site, on the basis of legitimate interest, and are not used to identify you personally.

If you email me

If you contact me at me@dhrimov.dev, I will receive whatever you put in that email - your address, your name if you give it, and the contents of the message. I use it only to reply to you and handle your request.

Where your data goes

Google Analytics is provided by Google, which may process data outside the EU, including in the United States. Google is the one tool here that involves an international transfer - Umami analytics and this site's own data stay in the EU. If you would rather no data go to Google, decline analytics in the cookie banner.

How long data is kept

In Google Analytics, event data is retained for 2 months and user-level data for 14 months. Umami keeps only aggregated statistics with no personal data. Server logs are kept for the period set by the hosting provider. Emails you send me are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data I hold about you.
  • Ask me to correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
  • Ask me to erase your data, where that applies.
  • Ask me to restrict or object to how your data is processed.
  • Receive your data in a portable form, where that applies.
  • Withdraw consent for analytics at any time, using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.

To exercise any of these, email me at me@dhrimov.dev. If you think I have handled your data wrongly, you also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

Changes to this policy

If the site starts doing something new with data - for example a comment system or a newsletter - I will update this page before or when that happens. This version reflects what the site does today.
